Image Compositing

Image compositing is the act of taking two separate visual pictures, and combining them to the point where they look as if they were actually that way. Like an illusion. These types of photos are created for advertisement, social issues, home decor etc. Rule of thirds can be used to make these pictures better. It is used by aligning a subject with their intersection points (these guidelines are on most smartphones). Rule of thirds enhances composition by allowing the image to flow smoothly from piece to piece across the whole photo.  Although, some people use rule of thirds incorrectly. They center the photo thinking that it is the correct way. Before professionals take a photo they think of a focal point, the angle and the emotion that comes with the photo. In my honest opinion I do not believe all pictures should be edited, some pictures are just naturally beautiful.

The strongest message I plan to communicate is my composite image called the "garden of learning". This image will communicate this message with instead of a top of a head where your "brain" would be, I would have a picture of a garden(the one in my backyard). For this composite image I will be using two angles, eye level for the picture of a person and flat angle for the picture of a garden. It won't exactly be focal point, but I am not trying to use that skill in this type of photo. When my audience first see's my photo I anticipate their eye will first go to the flowers, It is the unusual area that most people aren't used to seeing on an everyday basis.

Visual Statement

Our topic and message is about finding yourself, your passion and who you really are. We focus on Courtney's passion for Tahitian. This is important to me because I feel that everyone has a passion or just hasn't found it yet. For this project we were required to create a 2-3 minute long video, with our personal view on an issue. We had to have a high quality voice over, video's (or photos) relevant to our topic. As for music we were aloud to use royalty free music, or create our own soundtrack using garage band, we chose royalty free music. Lastly use our editing skills and put all the pieces together using Final Cut Pro. Courtney was in all the videos, and it was her voice behind the whole thing, with great enthusiasm. She did awesome.

On Final Cut Pro we learned many useful tricks and tools, we incorporated them in our video. We sped up, slowed down and edited the timing of our videos to give them an eye catching look. Also we used the color-enhancing tool too focus on the bright colors of our video and to make a point. In FCPX you have to use the libraries, events and projects properly so you can be organized and so it is easier to complete your video neatly. The audio levels need to be balanced between you visuals, background music and audio so it sounds perfect. In my opinion the voice over needs to be the loudest and your music needs to be in the back. In our video I think our video displays better quality. We have good lighting, and our videos are shot at cool places.

Our biggest challenge for this project was the editing, my partner and I were both new to Final Cut Pro. We overcame this problem by practicing, and practicing until we figured it out.  Courtney was the driving force, she was shy while doing the voice over but she did it, and did it in a great way. She had to dance in the videos, and talk about her passion as a Tahitian dancer. I helped her by using my speaking skills and coaching her throughout recording our voiceover. For our visuals I found places around the Island with good lighting where I could use my photography/video skills. The most enjoyable part of this project was working with Courtney, we had a lot of fun. As for our critique results I agree with it. We had a few things to work on, but we still did very good.

Modern Art Movement

The cultural movement that gave rise to the art style in my presentation was World War II. Minimalism is simple, pared-down and shows a sign of strong American visuals. It gave people peace during a hard time. Artists also went to minimalism for comfort, it showed the greatness in the simple things. It was a time where most of the country had close to nothing and minimalism showed everyone in a social way that less is MORE. Personally, I really like this movement and it is one of my favorite. I like things less complex and that is exactly what minimalism is.

"Guggenheim" By: Dan Flavin...                                                                                                     Around 1990

The artist the created the example I chose was Dan Flavin, I think he was trying to represent his sculptures using light. In my opinion one artist alone can persuade many, many peoples opinions. They can show you things from a different perception and express things in different ways. It is all about how hard the artist pushes their personal feelings to their audience. You have to be open-minded. The advances in technology aided the cultural impact of skilled art production, it expanded what people can do and made a whole different kind of art. Using technology a different kind of art world was created.

Workplace Safety

P2T1 Workplace Safety from Kapaa Warriors MEDIA on Vimeo.

The project goal was to make a video about OSHA, and how it keeps you safe. We needed to make an outstanding video to show our peers and teach them about the Occupational Safety and Health Association. Not only did we need to explain with words we needed to show it as well. Patrick was sort of our main character. He was the funny one and he made the video more interesting. Tierra definitely deserves recognition! She helped edit the video and add subtitles which made our video a whole lot better, she also put in her true effort to make our video with quality!

My biggest takeaway from this project was learning how to work well with people I don't really know sufficiently. While doing this project I learned how important some little things in he work place really are. Workplace Safety is very needed in every kind of job. On to my video skills... They definitely improved! I learned how to get better angles and some tricks to hold the camera more steady. I learned a few more things as well throughout this project; how to speak louder (communication), and remembering the script. Although our video was not perfect. We had a few variables... When we first stated filming we did it all vertical. We went back into class and Mr. Sanderl told us it needed to be horizontal, thats sucked, but started over and it worked out well. Another one is we would take a video and think it was good but then we'd watch and all you could hear was wind! It was a bummer. I believe we could've increased the overall value of our video by going somewhere more secluded, where we wouldn't get distracted and where there was no wind.

Art and Design

In my still life painting I used space, value, line and texture. I used line to create my base image, the outline. I used value to create my texture and to make my image more real. I used space in the background to make my image POP. The more you zoom in when applying your texture with the 5px brush, the texture comes out nicer. In this digital painting project the most enjoyable part was seeing what my image was at the end, I really liked how it looked. The hardest part was definitely trying to get the curves on my line drawing perfect. Even if it was a little of I would stress and try to keep fixing it.

My landscape photo came from, I never took my own but this image really stood out to me. I really liked it. My image has a lot of texture and I admire that, I used the filter tool to get it this way. There is a lot of white space in the back that makes the image in the front catch your eye more. My still life and landscape are both black and white. In my opinion my landscape is more sharp, it is the nicer of the two. While doing my landscape photo I followed the basic tutorial then went a little more beyond with it, I changed my background to conte crayon and that is why the texture is the way that it is. I really like my finished outcome of this landscape "drawing".

This last photo is my portrait photo, this is a picture of my best friend Nai'a. This was taken at breakfast about a week ago. I really like this picture and it means a lot to me because she is a very good friend. This image has my line drawing on the left, original in the middle and the pencil effect all the way to the right. In my opinion I did pretty good on this portrait. I used what I learned from the previous assignments and improved. As for the critique results, I was absent and do not have any.

Audio Production

Intonation and inflection can be used to maintain the interest of my audience because the inflection would catch the listener with the change of pitch in my voice, and the rise and fall (Intonation) in my voice would keep them listening. In our team I was the vocal talent. My job was to read my lines loud and clear. The rehearsal before we made the finish product was crucial. We HAD to do it in one take and anytime someone messed up we had to do it all over again. It took us a couple tries but the rehearsing definitely played a huge roll on how we did in the finished product.

I believe our team did pretty well from the critique. We got some high votes and very little bad votes. We faced obstacles of a few stutters but got through them easily. It took us a few tries to get the perfect tape, but each one we improved. I liked this group of people. We are not that close of friends so we weren't all that comfortable, I feel that if we were too work together again we would do even better then we did this time. Overall were a pretty good team.

Proprietary Information

Location: Pale Ke Kua.... Shhhh

Copyright infringement is work that is protected by the "copyright law" and using it without permission.  If you break anyone of these laws once or more than ones there is many consequences. For example, the infringer has to pay the amount of money for the damage done and their profits of the work that was not theirs. (200 dollars to 150,000 dollars for each piece of work) . When taken to court, the infringer also has to pay ALL the legal fees. When it is really bad, the infringer can also get jail time. But you can use material that isn't yours if you follow these certain steps, First know if permission is needed then find the owner, learn the rights, contact owner and ask if they would like a payment, if they say yes to using their work MAKE SURE you get it in written form. Fair use is when you copy, copyrighted work for a certain purpose. Fair use is used on websites that let you use others work.

Confidentiality is the protection of your private information. For example when going to a doctor they must keep all of your information and discuss it with others unless you tell them they can do so, or when you go to therapy and tell them your problems they are not aloud to tell anyone, their friends or family anything about what you guys personally discussed. Social media is not very confidential, it makes your private information, public. You need to be smart when using social media. I believe censorship keeps people safe. Censorship relates to the 1st and 5th amendment. Out of those two the right to privacy is more important to me and I feel like some of what people say should definitely be censored.

Market Shifts

A market is a place people go to buy stuff. They shift as technology develops over time because they have too stay up to game. Online stores are always changing faster then our local markets, as technology grows markets have to shift. For example, people have not been buying the news paper as much as they used too, now they just get the news online. Most likely for free.

On my choices 360 survey the two lowest basic skills I have were critical thinking and monitoring. as the market and technology continues to grow, critical thinking is a very good skill to have. You need to be able to come up with new, better ideas. I can work on my critical thinking ideas maybe by trying to solve harder problems in school and in life. The other low skill I got was monitoring. That goes for managers, bosses and the head people of companies. Those job titles are usually more high paying, and are more effective jobs as everything grows.

ACO 2.1 Analyze how shifts in market affect changes to media and design.

ACO 2.2 Evaluate how changing communication needs of a market are addressed by media and design.

Communication Strategies

My communication changes among people, and situations. In school, I'm more on top of how I talk and present myself, At practice and with my friends I'm more laid back and having fun. I feel most comfortable to be who I am in front of my friends, and most of my family. I don't always feel understood when talking to people, especially with my teachers, but when talking to my parents I feel very heard... Because they raised me and they understand me. I want to build my communication in the areas of my life where I'm uncomfortable and misunderstood, I can do this by stepping out of my box more often. If I communicate where I am kind of shy, It'll help me build my communication skills.

The very top choice on my career cluster was the Health Science workforce. When I get older I actually want to work in a hospital environment so this makes a lot of sense. I want to be a nurse. Next on my list is hospitality and tourism. Now this seems super cool, and fun! I think I could be a tour guide and be very good at it. Plus I'm polite.
